Navarre, Destin, and Pensacola, Florida Weekly Fishing Reports
Greg reached out to me a few weeks ago and scheduled a trip for this week.
He has never caught a Redfish so we started off chasing Redfish.
The cold front and strong NW winds made things a little challenging for Greg’s first Redfish trip and he ended up pulling the hook on the first fish.
After losing the first fish we pushed forward. He quickly realized where he should be casting and was rewarded with his first slot Red. She measured 23”.
As we were fishing Greg mentioned he hadn’t caught a fish on topwater. I tied on a topwater and handed the rod back to Greg.
I told him anytime he sees activity to cast at it and a few casts later he was hooked up to a quality Trout.
Unfortunately, she came unhooked at the kayak. Speckled Trout have soft mouths and you should never lift their heads out of the water. It provides enough leverage for the fish to throw the lure.
Eventually, he landed his first fish on topwater and we headed back to the launch a little after the sunset.
