Redfish

The month of March means Redfish and the warm weather kicked off the show a week early.

The fish are cruising the shallows and we will spend the mornings throwing topwater lures.

As the sunrises we will switch it up to soft plastics and start sighting casting fish as the prowl the flats in search of an easy meal.

Sight fishing is the most exciting way to catch a Redfish and thats what we spend the majority of the year doing.

Speckled Trout

As the water temperature continues to rise the Speckled Trout will invade the flats.

These fish love to eat topwater lures as the sun comes up!

Spring means small bait and this fish are often keyed in on baits with a smaller profile.

Keep this in mind when you go a while without a bite.

Sheepshead

Sheepshead love structure and are found around the majority of bridges in the Northwest Florida.

Shrimp, Fiddler Crabs, and Oysters are three of their favorite meals.

Anglers target them using small circle or j-hooks, light fluorocarbon line, and sensitive rods.

Sheepshead have teeth like humans and “bite” their food before running.

The bite is often challenging to feel and you will miss a few before you get the hang of it.

The limit on Sheepshead is generous.

Conclusion

Although Spring doesn’t official start until the end of March…

Spring kicked off in mid February and the fish are moving all over the place.

Get on the water and catch some fish!
