Offshore water temperatures will reach 70 degrees this week and kick off Summer.  Continue reading What’s Biting – May and let us help you catch more fish!

Offshore

We begin running Offshore Kayak Fishing Charters in May and we spent this past weekend doing a little scouting.

On Sunday, we decided to launch early, check for bait, and run south to check on the Triggerfish and Red Snapper.

Red Snapper

The Red Snapper population is booming off of Navarre Beach, Florida.

We checked five bottom spots and all of them were loaded with fish.

Red Snapper season opens on June 11th and closes on July 20th.

Don’t wait until the last minute to schedule your trip!

Triggerfish

The Triggerfish were plentiful and the season is currently open.

If you would like to get off of the beach and attempt to catch one, let us know!

Small hooks, fluorocarbon, and squid will get the job done.

Mackerel

The Spanish and Kings have been showing up at the piers and it won’t be long before they are everywhere.

As the temperatures increase, cigar minnows will show up in numbers.

Our next seminar will focus on targeting King Mackerel!

Inshore

The Redfish and Speckled Trout have been feeding well throughout the bay systems.

Soft plastics and topwater lures have been getting the job done.

If you’re having trouble targeting Redfish check out this article:

Kayak Fishing in April

Kayak Fishing in April

Kayak Fishing in April | Navarre Kayak Fishing

It’s officially Spring.  The Spring Breakers have arrived and Kayak Fishing in April is here to help you catch more fish!

The last week of March filled with winds up to 20 MPH but the fish didn’t seem to mind.

The flats are full of life and here’s how we plan to catch them.

Redfish

April is a fantastic month for chasing shallow water Redfish.

As usual we will spend the mornings throwing topwater lures.  This will allow us to cover water quickly and find active fish.

As the sunrises we will switch it up to soft plastics and start sighting casting fish as they prowl the flats in search of an easy meal.

Sight fishing is the most exciting way to catch a Redfish and thats what we spend the majority of the year doing.

We prefer to target these fish using 1/4 ounce jig heads and an Ultraviolet Matrix Shad.

Speckled Trout

Throughout the Spring, Speckled Trout key in on small baits and shy away from large topwater lures the majority of the time.

I prefer to throw 3″ soft plastic lures or small suspending jerk baits.

My all-time favorite is the Rapala X-Rap 08 in Olive Green.  (Purchase it here – https://amzn.to/2GlxLWl

Flounder

April is a great month for chasing Flounder.  They are migrating back inshore and are ready to eat!

While targeting Flounder, your lure should maintain constant contact with the sea floor.

We prefer to throw a Matrix Shad in Ultra-Violet and pair it was a 5/16-3/8 ounce jig head.

Conclusion

Historically, April is as wind as it gets in Northwest Florida.

However, the fish have to eat…

Get on the water and catch some fish!

Kayak Fishing in March

Kayak Fishing in March

Kayak Fishing in March | Navarre Kayak Fishing

Spring has arrived early and the weather has been amazing.

The air temperatures have been perfect and the water temperatures are rising daily.

The flats are beginning to come alive and the fishing has been nothing short of spectacular.

Continue reading Kayak Fishing in March and let us help you catch more fish.

Redfish

The month of March means Redfish and the warm weather kicked off the show a week early.

The fish are cruising the shallows and we will spend the mornings throwing topwater lures.

As the sunrises we will switch it up to soft plastics and start sighting casting fish as the prowl the flats in search of an easy meal.

Sight fishing is the most exciting way to catch a Redfish and thats what we spend the majority of the year doing.

Speckled Trout

As the water temperature continues to rise the Speckled Trout will invade the flats.

These fish love to eat topwater lures as the sun comes up!

Spring means small bait and this fish are often keyed in on baits with a smaller profile.

Keep this in mind when you go a while without a bite.

Sheepshead

Sheepshead love structure and are found around the majority of bridges in the Northwest Florida.

Shrimp, Fiddler Crabs, and Oysters are three of their favorite meals.

Anglers target them using small circle or j-hooks, light fluorocarbon line, and sensitive rods.

Sheepshead have teeth like humans and “bite” their food before running.

The bite is often challenging to feel and you will miss a few before you get the hang of it.

The limit on Sheepshead is generous.

Conclusion

Although Spring doesn’t official start until the end of March…

Spring kicked off in mid February and the fish are moving all over the place.

Get on the water and catch some fish!
